The Meeks shall inherit the earth

A man is being driven home. His driver passes a stopped police car. The officer pulls the car over. The man gets out of the car and approaches the police officer.
Let's all pause for a moment and breath a collective "idiot!". Outside of the Dali Lama, is there really anyone who doesn't know that when you are pulled over, you stay in your car and let the officer approach you? Chris Rock immortalized this advice in his classic "How Not To Get Your Ass Kicked By The Police" (which can be viewed at How Not to Get Your Ass Kicked By The Police for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure).

See, people getting out of their cars make the police nervous. And Chicago cops have a lot to be nervous about. A nervous cop is an angry cop at best. It’s not smart to make people with guns angry. No one should really be surprised that the officer cursed the man out, pointed a gun in his face and told him to get back in his car.

This man is IL State Senator Rev. James Meeks. And now he's accusing the officer of racial profiling. (As an aside, why is it okay for a Black Democrat to be both a Senator and a Pastor? If he were a white Republican the ACLU would be trampling each other in the race to file a lawsuit for violating separation of church and state.)

But I digress. I'm a cute white suburban girl and I still get jumpy around Chicago cops. They have a lot to deal with. On the rare occasion I get pulled over, I sit nice in my car and wait for the officer to approach me. It makes him happy. A happy officer means that I’m less likely to be ticketed, much less have fire arms pointed at me.

Rev. Honorable Senator Etc. Etc. Mr. Meeks, I'm really tired of hearing about racial profiling. Supposedly we’re not supposed to see skin color … why do you keeping shoving it in our faces? You might consider spending an evening studying Mr. Rock's video. When you act like you're going to be a problem to the police, they react badly. And if you're so certain racial profiling is rampant among the police force, what would possess you to jump out of your car and confront an officer? Did you ignore the little alarm that should be screaming "this is a bad idea!" in your head? As “a respected clergyman, the pastor of the largest church in Illinois, a state senator and the chair of the Illinois Black Caucus” (your own words) you should know better.

While we’re at it, I'm equally tired of hearing about reparations. Get over it. I didn't own any slaves, you weren’t a slave. That’s just another liberal excuse for taking money away from someone who’s earned it and giving it to someone who hasn’t. If you want to make reparations to someone, let’s talk reparations for women. We were considered property up until about a century ago ... by those standards we have a lawsuit that can be traced back to Adam. I’ll bet his fig leaf would go for millions on Ebay. It seems that everyone who isn’t a white male has an avenue for a pity party when the going gets tough. Oddly, the white male is becoming the minority … I’m sure there’s a lawsuit there somewhere if you talk to the right people.

"As an aside, why is it okay for a Black Democrat to be both a Senator and a Pastor?".... Really, what does it take to become a reverend anyway?  I think from now on, I too will demand that everyone call me The Reverend Neoconbabe.

That chris rock bit is great....

Having lived in poor neighborhoods, I am all for racial profiling....

I am a reverend.  I can marry people and everything.  I got my degree on the internet.  It took about 15 minutes.
